Cardio and Strength Equipment

PRFC cardio floor

You’ll find top-of-the-line Life Fitness equipment in our fitness area. The strength circuit offers a total body workout and is the ideal training solution for all levels of users. Machines are user-friendly for beginners, yet still offer a workout challenge for the more experienced fitness fanatic.

 

Our functional fitness training room offers dumbbells up to 100 pounds, a sled track, 3 squat racks, multisize tires, battle ropes, leg presses (hoist & linear), a Jacob’s ladder, and a plate loaded hip drive.

 

 

 

Group Exercise Classes

Group exercise classes are included for PATH Recreation & Fitness Center members! Regular exercise is important for overall health, and with our classes, you can build strength, flexibility and cardiovascular health AND have fun! Choose from high energy classes such as Build & Burn intervalsPOUND®, and Step & Core. Our complimentary Kids’ Corner child care service for family membership holders allows you to find your fit while your kids ages 6 weeks to 12 enjoy their own fun!

Personal Training

Maximize your health and physical potential with customized training programs from a certified personal trainer. Individual personal training options will be tailored to you. Our trainers will determine your current fitness level and health concerns, and work with you toward your specific goals. Working with a trainer is fun and effective – and it’s the best way to get results. NOW is a great time to start your training regimen and achieve your personal fitness goals!

Personal training information & fees

  • Personal training is available to PATH Recreation & Fitness Center members
  • Our trainers are available to conduct private, two-person or small group sessions. Choose what works for you!
  • Personal training packages expire 120 days from date of purchase
  • Sessions are non-refundable and non-transferable
  • Please provide 24-hour notice of cancellation to avoid being charged for the session

 

 


Meet our trainers!

 

James “J.T.” Thompson

 

J.T. holds a Bachelor’s of Science from George Mason University’s School of Nursing and Health Science. He also has a degree in Physical Education/Health Fitness & Nutrition from Chowan College. He holds a personal training certification from the International Sports Conditioning Association.

J.T. is available by appointment only.

Karen Irvin

 

Karen says, “My 25 years of training and instruction has included many types of exercise and programs to provide support for others to feel their best and add longevity to their mobility. I particularly enjoy the personal aspect of training and creating a fun, high energy environment for group exercise! I have always had a passion for sports and fitness and the older I get I understand the value in movement and strength to maximize longevity and better health. I achieved certification as a Personal Trainer to help people look and feel their best for years to come. It’s never too late to level up our health!”

 

Karen says that her 3 children and 5 very busy grandchildren keep her moving on the sidelines and with sleepovers. She loves the outdoors, boating, snorkeling, and fishing. She also enjoys planning fundraising events to support funding of research and education for the American Cancer Society and multiple cancer organizations.

Karen’s fitness tip: fighting muscle loss

 

 

Francesca Rojas

Francesca loves to help people feel good about themselves and assist them with goals such as weight loss and gaining strength. Her aim is to create a safe space for all clients to be themselves and feel comfortable in their bodies. “I want everyone to feel good about the skin that they are in,” she says.

Francesca has a certification in personal training from Germanna Community College, with coursework in aerobic fitness, weight training, and lifetime fitness and wellness. She also holds an associate’s degree in health and physical education from Germanna.

When not working, Francesca enjoys time with her two children, ages 3 and 7. Their adventures include nature walks, parks and anything that has to do with exploring! She loves to read – especially mysteries—and currently reads 1-2 books each week. Another favorite pastime in her off hours – discovering new coffee shops and bakeries.

 

 

Edson Appleton

With over 13 years of experience in health, fitness, and sports, Edson has worked as a strength & conditioning coach for athletes at all levels, a personal trainer, and a youth sports coach. His journey began as a Division 1 athlete and continued as a firefighter, shaping his ability to perform at a high level; even under the most demanding circumstances.

Edson says, “I see myself as an educator in health and human kinetics, focusing on teaching proper mechanics, efficient movement patterns and nutrition to empower athletes. My passion lies in helping others reach their full potential through safe, effective training plans that create lasting change. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to share my expertise with you!”

Taekwondo

Taekwondo classes are available for adults and youth (typically start at age 5). Active members of PRFC with Fitness and All Access memberships are able to participate in Taekwondo at no additional charge. Non-members interested in trying the program may drop in to take a class ($20/class).
