Looking for swim lessons? Check out our sister facility, Powell Wellness Center in Culpeper! Lessons in the indoor aquatic arena for children are open to the public. 

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends swim lessons for children as a “layer of protection” to prevent drowning. In addition to serving as a key component of water safety, swim lessons can introduce children to a fun physical activity that they may enjoy for years to come.

During PWC’s group lesson program for children, the following classes are typically offered: Parent & Child (ages 6 months – 3 years), Preschool Aquatics (ages 3-5 years), and Learn to Swim (ages 6 – 13 years).

Classes for children support the needs of never-ever swimmers as well as young swimmers progressing in their skills. The learning environment focuses on building skills in a fun way while also focusing on water safety – important knowledge for swimmers in order to help themselves or others in an aquatic emergency.

Instructor to participant ratio is kept low in order to provide the best learning environment. Parent & Child classes and the LTS level 3 & 4 have a 1 to 6 ratio, the Preschool levels 1-3 and LTS levels 1 & 2 have a 1 to 4 ratio.

Once your account is registered, you will receive an email with additional instructions on setting up your account through the member portal accessed via the Member button. Facility members: Use the member portal. For your first login, your username AND password will be your scan card number. You will have the ability to change these once you have successfully logged in. You can continue to access your account through the Member button on the PWC or PRFC homepage or using this link: https://www.ourclublogin.com/login

To register for swim lessons, please follow these steps in the Member Portal:

Using the menu on the left hand side, choose “My activities>courses/events schedule” and use the search criteria to find the list of swim lessons. Courses and events can be sorted by date. Please register using the child’s/lesson participant’s name (not the parent/guardian’s name).

SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABILITY

Scholarships are available for income eligible families. Please review the scholarship application form on our Membership forms & policies page (applications will be processed within a four week period; please allow sufficient time to apply).
